A Sloucher’s Pairing: Fast Food
Here we are again. It’s 5:30pm on a Wednesday. We worked hard today and we’re almost home. Unfortunately we remember that we only bought groceries to cook dinner through Tuesday night. Last time we got home, poured a glass of wine, ordered pizza, and relaxed. This week we’re too hungry to wait for delivery. What to do? What to do? We tell our bodies sorry and turn into our favorite fast-food restaurant. This sounds a bit depressing, but we’ve all been here more times than we care to admit. There is good news, though. There is no reason you shouldn’t still enjoy that glass of Slouch Hat with your fast-food. Although the fancy sommeliers will wag their finger at you, some of the best wine pairings are with cheap and quick food. So, proudly raise that greasy middle finger and tell those somms to mind their own business.
As You Were Sauvignon Blanc
Here's the fast-food options that I would recommend with Slouch Hat Wines. Let’s start with the As You Were Sauvignon Blanc. Back home in Arkansas fried chicken reigns supreme and, luckily, that is the perfect pairing for Slouch Hat’s Sauvignon Blanc. The acid cuts right through that greasy fried skin and all the wonderful flavors compliment the white meat inside. Even better news if you’re a spicy chicken sandwich fan, you can still enjoy the As You Were Sauvignon Blanc. The alcohol may elevate the spiciness a bit, but who’s really complaining? Me. I would be, but I have zero tolerance to spice.
Parade Rest Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre (GSM)
Next up we have the Parade Rest Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre (GSM). Personally, I think everything should pair with fried chicken, but I’ll adventure out. So instead of fried chicken our fresh, medium bodied GSM would pair well with your favorite fast-food burger. Red meat (hopefully real) with the red wine. It’s a story as old as time. The red fruit, spice, and earthy flavors will perfectly compliment that juicy, square-shaped Wendy’s Baconator. Now, set aside the wine and let it breathe for a bit and enjoy that frosty we both know you couldn’t resist.
Next time you’re hungry with no groceries at home don’t get down. Instead, turn proudly into that KFC, get some friend chicken, and enjoy a glass of Slouch Hat’s As You Were Sauvignon Blanc. Not in the mood for chicken? Weird, but that’s okay. Turn proudly into that Wendy’s, get a burger, and enjoy a glass of Slouch Hat’s Parade Rest GSM.
